Hi Lovelies,
After 10 days back home to make sure our baby recovered from his operation, and to administer some TLC to the van, we are back on the road again.
With a late and leisurely departure from Toowoomba we headed for the little town of Allora. We stopped on the banks of the Dalrymple River for lunch and then headed into town to have a bit of a sticky beak around. First stop was the post office, because I had forgotten to leave the spare keys at the house. Retirement brain must have kicked in very early.
Allora is a little very little town with a signed heritage walk. It is not a long walk, but was just perfect after our long 45 minute drive.
Some lovely old homes
The park dedicated to Pamela Travers, the author of Mary Poppins
And this gorgeous church - St Andrew's.
We were a bit amazed that most yards were green, especially as there was no water in the river.
We then took a drive to the showgrounds to see the mural that is painted on one of the pavilions. Really cool.
It was then back into the car and off to Killarney. We kind of took a back route and it was nice a pretty drive. Robbie was pleased that there were no dirt patches, that is until we turned off to the caravan park. The last 500 meters are gravel. Poor boy, he will have to wash the car again.
The Killarney View Cabins And Caravan Park is a lovely park. We have a beautiful shady spot, and Robbie could drive through so I did not have to direct him to get the van straight. Always a bonus.
A short time to set up, have a bit of a rest and the it was off to see the local stores. We wandered
through a vintage store and the news agency and then it was off to the co-op to collect some staples.
Last night was beautifully cool. We kept the van windows open, and also the weather door. It was the first time in years I have not had the fan on.
Today we headed off to do The Falls drive.
Our plan was to drive to Carr’s Lookout and make our way back. Best laid plans etc... just past Queen Mary Falls the road was cut as 3 trees had fallen across the road.
So it was back to Queen Mary Falls. We got all ready for the walk to see the falls.
We were a little disappointed to see that the tracks to the falls were closed for repairs, but we had obviously taken a boys look and missed the third track to the falls which was open.
So off we went. It was a bit of a scary walk with lots of steps and the odd lizard or two. There was a
reasonable amount of water coming over the falls.
I was interested to see that there were some spots where the water was coming out of the rocks. I do wonder what happens to the mountain as the water erodes it away. Perhaps not something I have to worry about in my lifetime.
The return trip to the falls is the same way we got down due to the other routes being closed. There was a little more wildlife, with more lizards, a goanna, and something that looked a little like a quokka. We are pretty sure it was not that, but we cannot find a picture of it, and alas, it was too quick for us to take a snapshot.
At the cafe we noticed that they had some remnants from a long past Jumpers and Jazz display.
We purchased bird feed and decided that we would feed the birds. You would think that I would learn from previous tries, but no, apparently I am a bit thick, Bird feeding is a blood sport.
Robbie had a wonderful time with feeding them, I became happy to watch. I did get one who wanted a piggyback ride.
From there it was off to Daggs Falls lookout. Very pretty and very steep.
Then off to Brown Falls. The sign did say that the walk was for fit and experienced walkers only.
We decided to go and see how far we could get before the fit part became a problem. We managed to get quite a way, which could have been because the area was pretty dry and we could walk along the banks, not sure we would have got that far if the creek was wider.
A pretty walk again, and we got to splash in the water a little.
From there we decided we would take a dive to Yangan and have a look.
A lovely 20 minute drive through some corn fields. The town itself it quite lovely. We did have a little laugh at the number of houses which have gates that attach to nothing.
Perhaps this is the town trend.
Normal afternoon, back to the van for lunch, the obligatory nap, and then I managed to write some post cards.
All for today lovelies.
Keep well and enjoy life.
Love us.
