Well another adventurous day had by us today. We decided to go and check out Gap Creek Falls. It was about a 30 min drive from our base, and it did say 400m walk but 1 hr to do it.
So off we went to see what we could find. OH yes another dirt track was part of the trip again!!. Some of it was as rough as guts. I put the machine into 4 Wheel drive to help with the logging track pot holes.
So,on arrival we set off to find the falls not expecting what we were about to encounter. Yes the first part was bush track not too bad of a walk, but after that it was like going down a steep mountain weaving in and out of trees, vines and rocks. Going down was a little slippery but ok, but we knew the trip back was gonna be tough.
Arrival at the bottom of the falls we saw a small trickle of water coming over the top rocks. BUT it was like a lost world down there. Really a unique and interesting spot.
After a rest and a photo shots we headed back. Mind you we had to stop every 10-15 m as it was pretty much straight uphill. We are both stuffed tonight after that walk.
We then headed out of the forest and on to Newcastle to have lunch by the water and hopefully do some fishing. Well the lunch happened and a walk around the area. No fishing got distracted. We spotted the old railway station which has be turned into a bit of an arty spot.
Also spotted the light rail train passing by. Parts of the road you drive over the same part as the light rail, with warning to cyclists to beware of the rail tracks. A shared road.
We spotted the light house at Nobby's Point but it was such a loooonnng walk after the one we just did so decided to give it a miss.
We spotted and old Fort up on the hill near the beach, so we wandered up to take a look. We were just in time to catch the last tour of the old Fort Scratchley. We took the tour down and about to view the old guns and cannons.
This place was designed to protect Newcastle from the Russian first of all, as it had gold about and also a huge store of coal, which would have be used to re stoke the war ships that ran on steam. Also to protect against the Germans, but was used in action against the Japanese mini subs which made it just outside the heads here, just out of range.
This tour was interesting but was about a 1 1/2 hrs long.
What a day, that was enough so off home went for a well earned rest for the old bodies!!
Till the next installment cheers all.
