Jervis Bay and the whales

Hi lovelies,

Yesterday we headed an hour north to Jervis Bay because we saw it on the way through and decided to come back for a longer visit. It's a really nice spot. We are camped on the river about 2 mins from the main-town area of Huskisson. This sits right on Jervis Bay.

Jervis Bay can fit 2 1/2 Sydney Harbours inside it!! It is 10 nautical miles East to West and North to South. The naval base HMAS Creswell, sits to the right side of the bay looking out and is a training and operation base. We have at present a naval boat about to be decommissioned (on 29Jun after 33 years) sitting in the bay. HMAS Success ,which is basically a floating oil tanker to resupply naval boats in operation.

Foot shot showing the white sand

We had a wander yesterday around some beaches. We walked along a couple but one is said to have the whitest sand in the world. Yes it really is very white not yellow colour of lots of sand beaches.

Today we decided to go on a whale watching trip out through the heads into the "Humpback Highway". Yes it was my idea even though I get seasick. (managed to last until on the way back when it got a bit choppy)

What a great sight it was seeing first dolphins swim up beside the boat as we hunted for whale sightings. We headed out into open water and saw lots of "Blows" from the whales. So the captain took us further north than usual to follow a couple of sightings.

These are magnificent creatures!! A couple did a breach but weren't in a hurry to travel north doubling back to go under the boat.
What a cool sight to see their white bellies in the water as they come up to the surface, then to see them breach or see their huge tails coming over. it is a must do even for us seasick people.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventually w

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the coast.  We had a lovely wander along the

A couple of days in Sydney.

Hi Lovelies, What a wonderful time we have had in Sydney.   Please note this post is very picture heavy, and pretty wordy as well.   Monday morning we left just after 9am to head into the city to visit my brother Michael.     I will admit that I was a little nervous of the traffic, which is why we waited until after the rush hour to leave.   We did very well I think and the GPS keeps us on track. I will admit that I was a little nervous of the traffic, which is why we waited until after the rush hour to leave.   We did very well I think and the GPS keeps us on track.  It took just over an hour to get to the docks were Mike was and is was so lovely to see him.     We pottered around and sat watching the river for a bit.   Had a spot of lunch and then set off to collect Seb (my nephew) from school.        School in inner Sydney suburbs is a bit of an eyeopener.   The schools are fenced and gates locked.   You cannot ent
