Yass to Cootamundra

Time to start heading back north today from the cold south -- or so we thought. It was a tad cold here -4.8. We headed from Yass to Cootamundra stopping at Jugiong to have a snack and check out the interesting little shops.

They have a memorial there for SGT Parry who was killed in a gun battle with the Hall gang of bush-rangers.

On to Cootamundra. a nice little town that features wide streets, Wattle trees and a huge railway station. The railway station I found interesting. It has the a huge platform and the yards run the length of the town.

We happened to be there when a train came by. It is as long or longer than the coal trains of Toowoomba. Around the back are some old rail transport for the fettlers etc. It also features a a huge old signal stand. They have an explanation of what they all mean front and back signals. Loved it!!

We ventured past Don Bradman's birthplace. They have made it into a historic house and museum.
There is an oval named after him as well.

Also next to us in the park is a Captains Walk. This is a path with busts of all Australian Cricket Captains bar the last 2 which are still being made. The plaques show how many tests they were in and how many times they captained Australia, averages etc. Really cool for us cricket fans to see.

Can you guess who this is? Recent Captain

In the town by the creek they have a bird walk as well, where the town along with the men's shed have made bird sculptures of native birds seen around. Very clever and nice addition to the town.

We also see these lovely Red Rumped Parrots around us eating seed.

Till next time ..Take care all.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventually w

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the coast.  We had a lovely wander along the

It's all about the birds.

Hi lovelies, Did you all manage to keep warm last night.  It was a little chilly here, which was not helped by the fact that we left the outer door to the van open.  What silly people we are. Today was such a beautiful day. We went for a short drive to the dam on the property. It is obvious that the dam is suffering from the lack of water, but we were blessed to see some gorgeous birds. On returning to the van we were met by a number of birds that decided it was time for their lunch. We are so blessed to have such a variety of birdlife around the van. Remember to sing the song - "There was one in the bed..... "   They are quite inquisitive,  but keep an eye on the humans just to make sure we are not going to do anything untoward. This gorgeous butcher bird decided that as I had vacated my chair it was all for him.  He entertained Rob with a concert.  He did not even seem to concerned when I returned. We were also
