Hi lovelies,
For those who sent me a message telling me I did not do a post yesterday - I know 😔. After dinner I thought I would have a little lie down before doing the post, and well I am sure you can guess the rest.
So today's blog is 2 days - you are all so lucky. 😂. It is a little wordy - sorry.
Yesterday we had big plans to get away just after the boys left for work. Of course that really did not work. We got everything organized, made sure the van was all secure, then did a final light check before leaving, and guess what - no left indicator light on the van.
After checking things out, fiddling, ringing Gramps for advice we eventually decided that we would head for the local hardware store to get a new trailer socket as there was one connection that was a little rusty and we could not undo it to check the power on it.
No socket at the first store, no socket at the second one, BUT by that time the socket had dried out and we had lights. A learning experience about making sure the socket a little more protected in rainy weather.
We eventually got under way at around 10 and made our way south.
We were just outside Warwick when we had our next learning experience. For some reason the roof on the van lifted on one corner, and the force of this made the entire roof lift up. Lots of northbound van drivers pointed up before we were able to stop and get it all battened down again. Not sure how this one happened, but we learned that this will cause a dragging feeling when towing the van, and it is also likely to cause cupboard to open and stuff to fall off places. I am not sure if this was because the roof popped or because I did not close things properly, but I am going with the roof.
We arrived in Tenterfield and got situated at the Showground Caravan Park. I think we did not do too bad with setting up for our first time on our own. We did even remember to loosen off the annex before popping the roof.
We settled in for a late lunch - 3pm, grabbed a quick foot shot, and then headed quickly to the information centre to get the low-down on what to see.
One of the lovely blessings for this trip is that we have been joined for the first two days by Steph and Leo. Rob worked with Steph at Gowrie and we discovered that we were heading in the same direction at the same time for the first few days. They are also van novices so we have had a good laugh together.
We joined together for happy hour and shared some lovely memories and have made some new ones to treasure.
Today - well Robbie slept in until 10am so it was a bit of a late start.
After breakfast we headed off to see the in town sights. It was a little overcast, but not any rain, so a great walk.
Our first venture was to see the beautiful Stannum House. This is amazing to look at and we are planning to return tomorrow to see the inside.
It was then a bit of a walk to the famous Cork Tree. This was so cool. Neither Rob nor I have seen one before. The bark was amazing. It was sad to see that some people had picked some it of, but that seem the way it is sometimes.
Our wandering then took us to the Centenary Museum (which was closed), some heritage houses
and then to the Tenterfield Saddler. It was great wandering around this little shop Lots and lots of wonderful old memorabilia and of course just the odd bit of Peter Allen info.
We then made our way back down town visiting lots of local shops to see what goodies were on offer. As there are few brand name store in town, items on offer were so different to what we see in home shopping malls. It was really fun to look around and check thing out.
Back to the van for lunch, and then off for a drive up Mt Mckenzie to the lookout. It was a little overcast, but still well worth the short drive.
We then headed back down and just a little further west to see the balancing bolders. The land along this road is so rocky it is amazing that there is enough areas for the sheep and cattle farming.
We did see some amazing rock formations, and a couple of balancing rocks. The road runs through a number of farms, which were more often unfenced. We kept a sharp eye on the critters that were feeding on edge of the road.
We left the private road and headed back into town. While driving I spotted a turtle on the road. I got Robbie to stop. The little one was still alive, but very dehydrated and a long way from any water.
We were concerted he would soon become a permanent part of the road so we picked him up and decided to deposit him in the creek that runs behind the caravan park. To thank us the little blighter peed in the car, and boy did it stink. It was nice though to see him swimming off down the creek.
A rest then before being joined by Steph and Leo, and not to forget Mckenzie their little puppy, for happy hour.
It has been a wonderful first 2 days, but I had best finish before you all fall asleep reading.
Keep enjoying life.
Love Us
PS - Nana your job is to name the flower for us. We will try and find you a new one each day so we make sure you read all the blog 😉
