Hi lovelies,
A little earlier start this morning than yesterday. We were up having a lovely breakfast by 8am.
It was a little sad this morning as we said goodbye to Steph and Leo. We have had such a blessed time with them and we look forward to catching up with them again when we head to South Australia next year.
As the weather was drizzly today we decided to head off to visit some of the nearby National Parks. Our day consisted of dirt roads, mossy paths, lots of kangaroos and very few cars. Gramps we are very sorry but the O Mobile is in great need of a bath. If it rains tonight I will be sending Robbie out in his swimmers to give it a wash.
Our first stop was to see Thunderbolts Hideout. It is a short walk through some bush to see where this apparently "gentlemanly" bushranger hid.
It was then back into the car and off to see the Tank Traps that were part of the Brisbane Line. It is a fairly visually unimpressive place for such an important part of our history. It was interesting that Robbie knew nothing of the history of the line, so he had homework when we got back to the van.
Then we were off to see Bald Rock. I was a little glad it was drizzly as it meant I had an excuse not to climb the little rock, but we were a little disappointed that as we arrived it started to rain heavily and so we did not even see it. We did however see a kangaroo playground on the way back.
Our next stop was Boonoo Boonoo falls. This was very pretty, and we noticed the difference in the water colour between the falls in New Zealand and here.
The water is not dirty, but stained from the tea trees in the area. The short walk to the falls was a little scary, and I did not go near the edge of the lookout as it was just too much for me.
The Tenterfield Railway Museum was next on the list to visit. Apart from the fact that I sent Robbie down some back road we got there safely.
It was wonderful to see all the old railway items and carriages. The station, which is no longer used has been wonderfully restored and maintained by a very dedicated group of volunteers.
It was then back to the van for lunch and a nap before heading out to see the inside of the Stannum Mansion. What an amazing building. The rooms, which you can rent, hold an amazing number of antiques. I did ask the lady who was renting this room if she had a ladder to get into the bed, she thought she might climb up over the chair.
I spotted a beautiful tea set which was my favorite. We even walked up two very steep staircases to the roof of the building where there were some fabulous view.
All in all another wonderful day.
Life of the retired is indeed good.
Keep enjoying life.
Rob and Lizzy.
For those following, Nana and Kris both let us know that yesterdays plant is a salia. As they agreed and I have no idea I am sure they are right.
Here is your picture for today.
