New Name - New adventures

Hi lovelies,

It seems like we have been planning our current adventure for such a long time, and yesterday we began.
We left Toowoomba at  8.30am with the lovely Andrew taking us to the airport, and this commenced our looonnng flights.

At Brisbane I followed the family tradition of trying to get through customs with some sort of weapon.  I had forgotten that I had a small ladies Leatherman type tool in the bottom of my bag.  It was enclosed in a lovely pink pocket, but the security officer decided it was to go into the "never to be seen again bin".  Oops.

Our first flight was to Singapore.  I had visited there before when Phillip and went to UK a couple of years ago to visit Andrew, but it was Robbies first trip.

Two things he noticed was that there are no speaker announcements, so it is very quiet, and that there are guards in the bathrooms.  This was the shortest of our two flights.  Our viewing choices were John Wick 3 and 5 new episodes of Arrow.  Not a bad way to kill 8 hours.  The flight and the food was good.  Robbie especially enjoyed the ice cream.

Our flight from Singapore to Frankfurt was on an A380, we had seats on the top deck.  This was really cool.  We were on the window seat and the one beside it.  There were only 2 seats on the side so we were the only ones in that set.  There is a storage area between the window seat and the window so there was a bit of extra room to spread out.  This leg of the trip was 12 hours, but as it was all at night we managed to kind of keep to a regular day/night pattern.

We were collected from the Airport by our driver and he dropped us at our motel.  As it was only about 8am we were unable to book in, but we got all the paperwork done, and they kept our bags so we could go off and explore the city.

The first thing we noticed was the number of bakeries, and they were busy.  We also noted that nothing really opens here until 10am!! The sun didn't rise until 9am so felt strange being dark for so long.

The mix of old and new architecture was everywhere, and really did not seem out of place.

We saw lots of tourist groups being given the guided walking tours about town, especially in Römerberg.   This is the older part of the city and is filled gorgeous buildings,

and an amazing old church.

I even found a Christmas shop.

We found a bridge that was full of padlock like some famous bridge in France.

and saw lots of statues.

And some interesting sights.
Wasps/bees on the pastries.  We are assuming that they are after the sugar from the fruit.

I was surprised to see that this business sold coffee not alcohol.

These bikes that have a "carriages" on the front.

 A really cool umbrella shop.

We managed to stay out walking until 3pm, which considering most of our walking was on cobbled streets was a miracle.

We then
headed to the motel, where we were finally allowed into our room.  A shower was the first thing on the agenda, followed by a cup of tea and challenging ourselves to stay off the bed before night time.

So that brings our first day in this lovely city to an end.  We have had the most fabulous time, and am looking forward to seeing more of Frankfurt tomorrow, after 10am when things open. 😉

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventually w

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the coast.  We had a lovely wander along the

A couple of days in Sydney.

Hi Lovelies, What a wonderful time we have had in Sydney.   Please note this post is very picture heavy, and pretty wordy as well.   Monday morning we left just after 9am to head into the city to visit my brother Michael.     I will admit that I was a little nervous of the traffic, which is why we waited until after the rush hour to leave.   We did very well I think and the GPS keeps us on track. I will admit that I was a little nervous of the traffic, which is why we waited until after the rush hour to leave.   We did very well I think and the GPS keeps us on track.  It took just over an hour to get to the docks were Mike was and is was so lovely to see him.     We pottered around and sat watching the river for a bit.   Had a spot of lunch and then set off to collect Seb (my nephew) from school.        School in inner Sydney suburbs is a bit of an eyeopener.   The schools are fenced and gates locked.   You cannot ent
