To the Castle !!

Hi lovelies

After a blustery night we have now started making our way south along the west coast of Scotland.

Alas I did not see the Northern Lights, but there is always next time, right Sam. 😉
Ullapool Harbor

The roads for the first bit were not a lot better than the those we have already travelled on, except there were a few more dual way places. We are hoping that as we head further south they will become more frequent.

Lochs everywhere here

Snow capped mountains right near us

The landscape as we travelled today was so vastly different to Australia. Even though it varied between flat land surrounded by water with mountains in the background, and then coast lines where the mountains came up to the water and you travelled along the edge, which we get at home. We noticed that you could see a lot more of the land between where we were and the mountains, mainly we thought due to the lack of trees.

Navigate this 1 lane road in a big van!!

There were some very pretty areas with more fishing villages. We were surprised to see snow on mountain tops.

It rained most of the morning, and stayed chilly all day.
The Castle

Our destination today was Eilean Donan Castle. It really was such a wonder to see. The guided audio walk was fabulous, not just for the history, but also for interesting bits like James Bond drove his Aston Martin over the arch bridge in one of the Pierce Brosnan movies.

Views from the castle across the 3 lochs that join here

Where we were allowed to walk through was lived in by the family until the 1970’s, and then they moved to another part of the castle where they still reside. It was really lovely to see.

It was then off to find our park for the night. We were kind of surprised to find ourselves at the base of the Kintail mountains, some of which have snow on them. I think we will be in for a chilly night if the wind pick up any.

All for now.

Stay safe and keep enjoying life.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

New Year, New Quotes

Hi Lovelies, If you're a regular at the Scrap N Patch you would know we love quotes. To help you get inspired and motivated for the amazing new year ahead, we thought we would put together a little collection of quotes we have found. Print them out, save them to your phone, set them as your wallpaper or share them with your friends.

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the ...
