Stonehenge and Brighton

The last couple of days we have been at the southern end of England. We missed most of the bad flooding about here at the moment.

nice views about the countryside

Yesterday we ventured up to see Stonehenge. It was well worth the trip to see the stones from ancient history.

There is a visitors centre with buses that run up and back to the stones. Inside the centre are artifacts and slide shows about the history of the the area. It was quite informative. We always thought it was was built by Druids but it was built way before they came along. They did though use the area. It seems it was a burial ground as well with lots of mounds around which have been used for burials.

Today we went further east and camped at Brighton. It is quite different than a lot of other towns. Along the beachfront are lots of large buildings that seem to be either lodges or town houses. They look quite expensive and have a great view across the English Channel. The water's edge is all stones and the sea looks rough and not very inviting.

The main road is at the top of the green grass

a zipline used (not at the moment) Notice the beach sand/ rocks
We walked from our van park up to the Brighton Wharf area along the waterfront. The wharf is very larger and old. It is full of eateries and sideshow alley type places. We stopped and had fish and chips in the cold windy weather.

Next we wandered up around the main town area. It was interesting to see some of the sights.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventually w

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the coast.  We had a lovely wander along the

It's all about the birds.

Hi lovelies, Did you all manage to keep warm last night.  It was a little chilly here, which was not helped by the fact that we left the outer door to the van open.  What silly people we are. Today was such a beautiful day. We went for a short drive to the dam on the property. It is obvious that the dam is suffering from the lack of water, but we were blessed to see some gorgeous birds. On returning to the van we were met by a number of birds that decided it was time for their lunch. We are so blessed to have such a variety of birdlife around the van. Remember to sing the song - "There was one in the bed..... "   They are quite inquisitive,  but keep an eye on the humans just to make sure we are not going to do anything untoward. This gorgeous butcher bird decided that as I had vacated my chair it was all for him.  He entertained Rob with a concert.  He did not even seem to concerned when I returned. We were also
