Last Night for the Van

We have visited some more very interesting places in the past 2 days.

Yesterday we left our site at Stockton-on-Tees and headed to see the Segedunum Roman Fort and Museum. This was our choice to try and see some of Hadrian’s Wall before leaving England.

The wall stretched across the country

Model of what was here

The museum was pretty cool with lots of display of items that had been found while the old fort was being excavated. The fort was at the far eastern end of Hadrian’s Wall, and is interestingly called “Walls End” 😊

Part of what's left of the wall.

The ruin area is quite large and while there is no actual buildings still standing the locations of the buildings are outlined with stones.
There is only a small part of the wall left, but it was cool to actually see it.

From there we headed off, left England and crossed back into Scotland.

Our destination was the lovely town of Melrose. Our van park was right in the middle of town, so we were able to go for a quick walk to check things out.

This gorgeous Abbey is also in town, alas it was closed.

We continued to wander around town, and finally found somewhere that served Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. It was a lovely pub, the staff were amazing and we had a lovely meal out.
Mixed reactions regarding the Haggis, which kind of tastes like stuffing.

This morning we left Melrose this morning and were a little unfortunate to have a police escort for most of our journey. This is because they were escorting a very large oversized machine on a truck. I was pleased we were behind it, as it seemed a little safer than trying to get past it. Once it had to stop and they tried to get it past a semi coming the other way. Not sure the trucks were happy with receiving instructions to put his truck in the scrub.

We finally turned off from behind the police and headed for Roslin, to visit the Rosslyn Chapel.

The carvings inside the chapel are amazing. Alas no photos are allowed inside the chapel itself. We were lucky to arrive just in time for a verbal presentation from one of the members of the trust who works there. Such an amazing history.

We left there and have now arrived back in Edinburgh. Spending our last night in the van before we hand it back tomorrow and head for a motel for a few days.

All for now lovelies,

Stay safe and keep enjoying life.

Love us.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
