Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the ...

Junee

Hi lovelies, Today we took a drive to the lovely town of Junee. Our first stop was the Licorice and Chocolate Factory. This slightly dilapidated building held an amazing array of treasures and wonder. All areas of the factory were operating and you can see into them all and watch the process.    This mixer is called “Shelley” and she chocolate coats about 10 times as much product  as these copper drums There is a tour of the factory, which is done by DVD, but this makes it easy to see what happens with each process.   We were a little skeptical of this at the start, but it was a wonderful addition to the morning and well worth the $5 fee. The guide goes through all the processes, there is some tasting, and then a game of Licorice Skittles at the end.      You throw a rock hard ball of licorice up into the old wheat hopper and try and knock the skittles over.   There were 4 of us on the tour...

Yass to Cootamundra

Time to start heading back north today from the cold south -- or so we thought. It was a tad cold here -4.8. We headed from Yass to Cootamundra stopping at Jugiong to have a snack and check out the interesting little shops. They have a memorial there for SGT Parry who was killed in a gun battle with the Hall gang of bush-rangers. On to Cootamundra. a nice little town that features wide streets, Wattle trees and a huge railway station. The railway station I found interesting. It has the a huge platform and the yards run the length of the town. We happened to be there when a train came by. It is as long or longer than the coal trains of Toowoomba. Around the back are some old rail transport for the fettlers etc. It also features a a huge old signal stand. They have an explanation of what they all mean front and back signals. Loved it!! We ventured past Don Bradman's birthplace. They have made it into a historic house and museum. There is an ova...
