Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the ...

Jervis Bay and the whales

Hi lovelies, Yesterday we headed an hour north to Jervis Bay because we saw it on the way through and decided to come back for a longer visit. It's a really nice spot. We are camped on the river about 2 mins from the main-town area of Huskisson. This sits right on Jervis Bay. HMAS Success Chinaman's beach - white sand area - Jervis Bay Looking out to the heads Jervis Bay can fit 2 1/2 Sydney Harbours inside it!! It is 10 nautical miles East to West and North to South. The naval base HMAS Creswell, sits to the right side of the bay looking out and is a training and operation base. We have at present a naval boat about to be decommissioned (on 29Jun after 33 years) sitting in the bay. HMAS Success ,which is basically a floating oil tanker to resupply naval boats in operation. Foot shot showing the white sand We had a wander yesterday around some beaches. We walked along a couple but one is said to have the whitest sand in the world. Yes it really ...

Feathers and fins.

Hi lovelies We did not do too much for the past two days, but what we did do was so exciting. There were a number of swans visiting the lake over the last few days, and they look so graceful and peaceful. There are also a number of pelicans at the park, and they are very friendly.   Robbie and I did go off fishing yesterday morning.   He caught a few rock cod,  but this one with the bow tie was pretty cool.    He was a little worried about if the eel would bite or not. While he was fishing, we saw a whale breach a couple of times just in front of us.   Alas we did not have cameras on hand to take a photo of it. We went back up to the Warden Head Lighthouse and did see a couple of others slowly making their way up the coast. Robbie did manage to catch a legal size fish yesterday back at the lake. I am not at all certain he caught it as much as it caught itself.  He throws the lines in,...
