Father's Day in Bathurst

Hi lovelies,

Well as much as I tried, I could not get Robbie to do the blog today.  I said it was Father’s Day so he should do it, he said as he had done the last couple it was my turn.  😊.

We have had a wonderful time doing father-type things today.

First, I called my Dad and we had a lovely chat.

Our plans for the day were to have a leisurely morning before heading off to the National Motor Racing Museum.

I had booked Robbie (and me) to have a trip around the Bathurst circuit in a Holden Monaro.

We arrived a little early so that we could have a walk around the museum until it was time for our ride.  When we arrived, they also had rides available on a “motor-trike”, so we booked one of those as well.
The Museum was wonderful.  So much history.  They also have an immersion room where they show a surround-video of a lap of the circuit.  Really cool.
Lots of cars,

Bikes,

Sidecar bikes,

As well as other vehicles of interest.  Solar cars,

Jack Brabham's racer.

dragsters

and this fabulous collection of wooden hand carved models.

It was then time for our laps of the circuit.  Our first trip was in the Monaro.  It was pretty cool.

We found out that the drivers of the cars that were up for hire are all owned and maintained by the council,

and that the drivers are the mechanics who maintain them.

They do the Father’s Day ride each year, and it seems to be a huge success.

It was then a short wait until we had our ride on the Trike.  This is operated by a private group and it was also a lot of fun.  It was different to do the circuit out in the fresh air as it was.

We then went back in and finished our museum tour, and Robbie bought a couple of Mustang souvenirs to remember the day.

I thought the day went really well and Robbie said he had a good time.

All for now lovelies.

Stay safe and keep enjoying life.

Love us.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventually w

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the coast.  We had a lovely wander along the

It's all about the birds.

Hi lovelies, Did you all manage to keep warm last night.  It was a little chilly here, which was not helped by the fact that we left the outer door to the van open.  What silly people we are. Today was such a beautiful day. We went for a short drive to the dam on the property. It is obvious that the dam is suffering from the lack of water, but we were blessed to see some gorgeous birds. On returning to the van we were met by a number of birds that decided it was time for their lunch. We are so blessed to have such a variety of birdlife around the van. Remember to sing the song - "There was one in the bed..... "   They are quite inquisitive,  but keep an eye on the humans just to make sure we are not going to do anything untoward. This gorgeous butcher bird decided that as I had vacated my chair it was all for him.  He entertained Rob with a concert.  He did not even seem to concerned when I returned. We were also
