Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

 Hi all,

Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours.

We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :)

We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it.

After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters.

Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it.

Then off to our accommodation for the night.

The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventually worked out the name. When the sea water flows over the rocks it causes a big bubble and froth, so it looks like champagne bubbles. Rob went for a dip in the pools.

On the way back to the bus we came across a red-belly black snake right near the board walk we were on. Alas no dingoes were sighted in our trip just a snake!!

We also stopped at the Maheneo wreck to have a look at the hospital ship that ran aground after being towed to it destination.

Liz was brave and took a joy flight in a light plane to view the island and hopefully see some whales or sea life. (no luck she says). She says it a lot of fun and to see things from the air.

We stopped in at Eli Creek as well for a dip and paddle. This is a fresh water creek running out to the sea where families and kids can float down the creek in safety as it is only 1-2 feet deep. Nice place.

After a big full fun day we headed off through the island to board the barge back to the mainland.

We had a really good time and saw some nice spots. The 2 day tour is very relaxed and you get to stop at various spots to take it all in.
