2 Days in Canberra

Hi again all, my turn tonight to flap on about what we've been up to the last couple of days.

Well yesterday we were suppose to find a nice little boutique village to look at -- but--got there and found , you guessed it nothing. So we ventured off to Canberra to visit the War Museum.

Simpson and the donkey

It really does make you think about the the world and what people will do to protect their country and also what provokes countries to war against each other. The lives lost and injured in the process.
Tomb of the unknown soldier

The war museum is somewhere we have been before and I guess lots of people have seen it, but it keep changing and they add different displays. It was fascinating to see some of them. The vehicles , planes, uniforms, and pieces of memorabilia that is on display.
Cricket bat repaired and football

Lancaster Bomber

A plane which had to ditch the wheels after takeoff

Chess set made with bullets

We did get to see the military guard which is only there 2 Wednesdays each month. We watched them do the change over. Seems they do 1/2hr at time and do a short march at about 15 mins to stay upright and not faint.

We also visited the the lake to chill for a bit and take a foot shot. Then off back to our van.

Today we had a meet up with one of Liz's Facebook friends who is a member of the same card swap group. It was good to meet her and have a look at the National Arboretum in Canberra.

What a terrific spot to view the Capital and have morning tea.

They are replanting and making a place to grow endangered and rare trees. A big bush-fire went through sometime ago, and wiped out the trees where it is situated. It is a work in process.
The inside area - nice ad big with great views

We loved looking at the bonsai trees. The craft is amazing how they train a huge tree to be so small. yet look like the big version.

After that we ventured to another boutique town , Bugendore, and yes this time it was there. It has some very nice shops including woodworking, leather and antique shops. Some very expensive pieces!!.

That's it for now, until next time....

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
