Cowra to Bathurst

Well we are wandering home slowly, so we stopped in Cowra for 2 days then onto Bathurst for a week to do a bit more sightseeing.

We found some interesting sights in Cowra including the railway museum, and the POW camp.
We found the railway history museum interesting because we could wander through the old carriages and look at the round house workshop. My father was a railway man years ago so it was good to remember some things from way back.

2nd class seating
One was the toilet where you had to 'hold it' while at the station as the it goes straight onto the track! The old style 1st class and 2nd class seating and sleepers was cool to see again.

Round house

Loved seeing the old engines and rail cars as well. The round house used for servicing trains in the shed was good to see as well.

Cowra was the POW camp in the 2nd world war as it was isolated and the sight of an army training unit. It housed originally Italian and German civilians who were suspected of being sympathizers at the time. Then it help Japanese and Indonesian POWS as well.

It is a larger area and part is kept as a memorial now.
It is famous for a breakout of Japanese POW's who would rather die than be held captive as it was a shameful thing to their families.  4 Australian soldiers died and some 231 Japanese were killed in that breakout.

We got into Bathurst yesterday and today we did a bit of a drive around town and then up to Mt Panorama. What a cool thing to do. Driving around a classic track for the first time was great. Both of us had a drive around. We did it 3 times for the fun of it.

Tomorrow we go up to the mountain again to do a hot lap in a classic car and see the museum of motor racing.
Till next time .... Rob & Liz

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventually w

Hervey Bay and the case of the missing whales.

Hi lovelies, It has been some 8 months since our last post.  Travel around the world has certainly changed in 2020. We had not planned to do too much traveling in the first half of the year, but we quickly discovered that us making that decision and the government telling us that we won't are two very different things. :-). Feeling the need for a bit of a break, and a touch of fishing we headed for Hervey Bay on Wednesday. We had a great drive up, even managed to stop for a quick chat with the lovely Shirley in Cooya.   On Thursday we headed for a quick trip to the information centre.  To my surprise Robbie wanted to book another whale watching cruise.  We spoke at length to the agent there and finally chose what was supposed to be the calmest day for the next week.  It was then off for a drive along the coast line from Point Vernon to Urangan.   The day was beautiful, though there were large patches of mist/fog that hung around some of the coast.  We had a lovely wander along the

It's all about the birds.

Hi lovelies, Did you all manage to keep warm last night.  It was a little chilly here, which was not helped by the fact that we left the outer door to the van open.  What silly people we are. Today was such a beautiful day. We went for a short drive to the dam on the property. It is obvious that the dam is suffering from the lack of water, but we were blessed to see some gorgeous birds. On returning to the van we were met by a number of birds that decided it was time for their lunch. We are so blessed to have such a variety of birdlife around the van. Remember to sing the song - "There was one in the bed..... "   They are quite inquisitive,  but keep an eye on the humans just to make sure we are not going to do anything untoward. This gorgeous butcher bird decided that as I had vacated my chair it was all for him.  He entertained Rob with a concert.  He did not even seem to concerned when I returned. We were also
