Fort William

Hi lovelies,

Another amazing day on our adventure.

This morning we left our camp site and headed for Glenfinnan. Our aim to see the Glenfinnan Monument and the Viaduct.
Outlander Movie buffs take note here

It was brisk this morning, but a lovely day for a bit of a stroll. The monument is quite impressive, and the view of the peaceful loch was just stunning. We then wandered up to the viewing area for the Viaduct. This was used as the Hogwarts Train track in the Harry Potter movies. Also an impressive site.

The viaduct used for Harry Potter
The views with the snow covered mountains in the background made for a pretty picture.

From there we headed to see Neptune’s Stairs. This is a series of 8 locks that take boats between Loch Eil and Loch Lochy. We were blessed to see a yacht going up from Eil to Lochy. It was so cool.
The lock operators were very helpful and happily answered any questions anyone had.
It takes 1 1/2 hours to get a boat up or down the stairs. See the video if interested here.

Our next stop was to do the obligatory distillery tour. Our choice of distillery was the Ben Nevis Distillery, in the foothills of Ben Nevis the highest mountain in Scotland.

The tour starts with a short video by Hector MacDram, and I think Hector had consumed more than a dram when he made it. It was so funny.
The tour was then taken over by Jonathan, who did an excellent job. It was good to find out all about the distilling and blending processes.

Robbie got to take a whiff of one of the washback vats, and I think he nearly lost his head. Apparently it was pretty bad. They tried to get me to try it, but I was smarter than that.

Robbie did the sample taste, and said it seemed nice. We did make a purchase there. Some Whiskey and Honey Hand Lotion 😂

It was then off to Old Inverlochy Castle. We stopped there and had a spot of lunch before wandering around the ruins. Amazing the work that was done before cranes, bulldozers and alike.

Robert the Bruce took this castle back in history

Our last stop for the day was the West Highland Museum. This had 6 large rooms, each dedicated to a different historical event or era. One to the Green Berets, another to Jacobites, and another for Queen Victoria. It is an amazing array of memorabilia and information. A lovely way to end an excellent day.

All for now lovelies.

Stay safe and keep enjoying life.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
