Adventures in Wurzburg

Hi lovelies,
After sailing most of the night this morning we reached the beautiful town of Wurzberg.
We arrived a couple of hours before schedule due to some timing luck with locks. I mentioned to someone that if this keeps up the captain will get a speeding ticket. 😉
view from the ship to the Old Princes' residence

Big fortified Residence
After breakfast, which for the first time in a bit was not held in the dark, Robbie went off for a nap and I headed for the short walk into town.

Wurzberg is surrounded by vineyards. We noticed them while sailing and again on the walk. I have decided that I am pleased my lot in life is “to drink the wine, not tend the vine”. I cannot imagine working these fields. They are all on the sides of hills.
Vineyards up and down the hills

Our morning view is of the old residence belonging to the Prince Bishops. We thought the building was magnificent, but someone down the line wanted a much nicer residence, so this building was abandoned and a new one built. The new residence was to be our afternoon tour.

I wandered the town for a bit before heading back along the river and to the boat for an early lunch.
That done we then headed off to catch our bus to the new residence. This was huge. Prince Bishops wielded power on both secular and spiritual levels and so were extremely powerful and as a result very rich. The was very evident in the size and ornate decoration of the residence.

Residence
This residence boasts the largest painted alfresco roof in the world. I will admit that while the building was impressive in size, we were not particularly impressed with the style and decorations. It was very over the top in places and just bizarre in others.
No photos were allowed so our images tonight are courtesy of google.
Luxury stuff

Room of mirrors

It was then time for us to wander down into the centre of town and visit another Christmas Market.
Lots of wonderful delights to see. We finally had the courage to ask what the soft ball sized biscuits were. We think they are made by reasonably loosely moulding leftover cookie dough together and baking it.
Lizzy loved the birdhouses

Back on the boat and cruising again tonight.
Stay safe and keep enjoying life.
Love us.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
