Regensburg (Bavaria) Germany

G'day all,
Today we visited Regensberg still on the Danube. We docked at this village around 10am then off we went with our guides to learn a bit more about this town. If you read yesterday hopefully you'll remember that a lot of buildings were in the baroque style. Well this village still has a lot of Gothic early to late styles and also some Baroque. (Gothic meaning Reach towards heaven). Again it is subject to flooding from time to time.

Again this place had Roman fortresses that were used in the Roman empire till its decline. Somethings still remain. So the history goes back 200 odd years. Being on the Danube was a great place to move things up and down the river.

We left our guide to venture to the markets and have a look around after a while. Yep still trying out the local Gluwine (hot wine and the donuts that are named after a chimney stack so we were told by the locals.

Sipping our warm wine and punch
German name for Chimney Donuts

Chimney Donuts yum
We ventured into a few markets collected another cup, bought a few souvenirs and generally wandered around.

Unique handmade goods
Tonight we had a performance by an Oompah band. It was cool and lots of fun. The men in lederhosen was amusing. The Bavarians are very proud of their history and culture. They are part of the Germanic tribes that have inhabited this area for thousands of years.

We went through more locks today and still have about 16 to go tonight till we get to Nuremberg tomorrow. Here is a video of the boat going through a lock if interested. Amazing engineering. The level is low- we drive in, they close gates behind us, then fill er up and lower the front gate and off we go again. Takes about 15-20 to get through each lock if we don't have any hold ups. This one is not very high only 6-7 m high.

Today Elizabeth got to be a chef extraordinaire, learning how to cook Mustard soup, hat and all.

Master chef at work :)

That's it for today. Keep living the dream all.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
