New South Wales Adventures - Armidale

Hi lovelies,

Another wonderful day in our barefoot travel adventures.

This morning we set off to see the Natural History Exhibition at the University of New England.

This display was amazing and well worth the visit.  Everything was so well set out and the labelling made it really easy to find out what was on display.

The was a huge number of different animals on display.  My favourite was the was “lace fish”.  Now I know this is not the correct name, but we cannot read the photo we took of the sign.   Don’t you think it looks like a crocheted piece of artwork.  Simply amazing.

The display included marine life,

Native and introduced animals.

Birds

There were even amenities for the dinosaurs.

Our next trip took us to the Museum of Antiquities, which is also on the Uni campus.

The history displayed in this museum was also amazing.  The cabinets were filled with artifacts from so many different civilizations and the narration for each section was very informative.

Then it was a short 20 minute drive to see Bakers Creek Falls.  The lookout for these falls is very very high.  I did hold it together, with the assistance of my gorgeous hubby. It really was an amazing sight, but not too close to the edge.

Then because my nerves apparently had not been stretched enough we went off to Metz Gorge.  The name really should have warned us.  It was very very very high.  I again did not venture too close to the edge, but it was cool to see remains from what we assume is an old goldmine.

Back to the van for lunch and then off to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place.  This too was really interesting.  There was an exhibition on featuring art works from 3 local painters.  They are also doing some major renovations which are due to open in November.  No photos were allowed in the gallery so you will just have to take my word for the fact that some of the paintings were amazing.

From there we ventured to the Armidale Folk Museum.

This had some wonderful antiques an local history.  I was again amazed that each of these musems house something different.

For me the favourite this time was a display of tea cups designed for men with mustaches.  This one would suit my Andy very well don't you think?

All for tonight lovelies,

Keep enjoying life.

Rob and Lizzy

PS - flower of the day for those who are playing

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
