Day 11 Milford Sound

An early start today, even for me😉

We needed to be on the road by 7am for our drive to the beautiful Milford Sound.  We had been advised by the tourist Centre that the drive would take approximately 2-2 1/2 hours, with a 1/2 hour walk from the car park.

The drive gave us some beautiful sights.  Snow capped mountains, crystal clear rivers and streams, and the odd waterfall from the melting snow.  We had decided last night that we would not make any stops on the way up, but would do a little sightseeing on the way back.

The road was pretty good, and perhaps due to the early start there was not much other traffic on the road and we arrived with a fairly early for our boat ride.  The only time I had an issue was the tunnel that goes through the mountain.  None of our research mentioned the tunnel.  Miss Sam - some warning might have been nice 😉🤣

We booked in for our cruise and sat in the quietly and waited for our ship to be ready to leave.

The cruise was wonderful, the day was sunny and had warmed a little.  The breeze was light for most of the trip, only being a little stronger near the ocean entrance.

The views along the way are magnificent, and there are 3 honorable mentions,

1 - we got to see a couple of Fiordland Crested Penguins.  Hard to take photos as they are so tiny.

2 - some seals slacking off on a rock.  Not sure how they got up there.

3 - a “glacial facial” at Stirling Falls.  The cruise director said that the spray from the waterfall is supposed to have magical properties and ladies will look 10 years younger.  I am pretty sure he was telling furfies 🤣

Very happy and back at the port, with Robbie not suffering from and motion sickness, we headed back to our car for the return trip to Te Anau.

We stopped first at Monkey Creek and had our lunch.  The water there is very clear and pretty chilly.

Our next stop was Mirror Lake. The water here was just crystal clear, and as it was not flowing as quickly as the creeks this area has some little black ducks.  We were also lucky enough to see a couple of trout swimming around.

Our final stop was the swinging bridge at the start at the Te Anau end of the Kepler Track.  I managed to walk about 20 feet out before heading back. 😱

After that we are headed back to our lovely cabin for a rest before dinner.

All for now lovelies.

Stay safe and keep enjoying life.

A couple of videos for you to view.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
