Day 4 of NZ trip Lake Tekapo to Omaru.

Today we headed to the sea again to Omaru for couple of nights. Nice town fairly large with all the usual stuff. They have a Heritage centre in the middle of town we will visit tomorrow and a penguin centre we will also see tomorrow night.

We headed off and had a stop at Twizel for morning tea. Not much there really. A Lord of the Rings statue is about it.

LOTR statue

Next we stopped a little quaint town called Kurow for look at a vintage shop and the info center. It was quite amazing this small town had lots of historic items in shops.

Maori Items

The information centre had a good little museum, free to visit. Lots of cool stuff about the Maori and bones from the extinct Moa bird. War items and old stuff from shearing and spinning wheels were also there. Worth a visit for sure.

MOA bones

On to Duntroon for lunch. While there a visit to Maori rock art and a place called Elephant rock.

Maori rock art--- Wouldn't bother sorry

Rock art

- Aboriginal rock art is way more interesting.

Elephant rock - well they say it looks like a herd of elephants, the rocks that were left from weathering that have risen form the sea long ago. Well gotta have a good imagination I reckon.  Some scenes from The Chronicles of Narnia were filmed here. Worth a visit? Not really.

On to Omaru for a couple of days by the beach again. Overcast and cool here atm about 20C high and 6 or so low.

Things we have learnt so far....

Some random stuff about NZ.

An Esky = Chlli Bin

Mangoes $6 ea

Petrol 91 (like E10 ) $2.70 a litre - Diesel is about $1.80 NZ$

These road signs mean no stopping -thought it was no speed limit😊

Road works- they have a road sign saying Temporary 30 or whatever - all in round shapes.

Maybe shouldn't complain about costs in Aus now.

That's for today - more adventures tomorrow.

Hi all, Here a brief overview of our 2 day adventure on Fraser Island with Fraser Island Explorer Tours. Here is a link to our trip in video format.  https://youtu.be/QY8tr093G4o We were picked up from our accommodation by our tour guide who then picked up some more of our group and headed to the barge to go across to the Island. It was very smooth no seasickness this time :) We got on the 4x4 wheel bus and headed inland to Lake Mackenzie. This was a very picturesque spot. The water was very cool and the sand as white as we've seen it. After this we headed to Central station , the old tree clearing head quarters. Next we headed for Lake Wobby which was a 45 min trek in and 45 out across lots of sand. It sits on a big sand-blow which will eventually disappear. A small fresh water lake with a couple of cat fish in it. Then off to our accommodation for the night. The next day we headed out to run the beach pretty much all day heading all the way up to Champagne Pools. We eventua...

Three days in the snow.

Hi lovelies, We have had the most amazing 3 days at the Perisher Valley Snowfields. Warning this is a very text heavy post.  Photos are limited, you cannot take many while you ski/board.  Robbie will have a video soon. On Monday we headed up just for a drive and to see what was around.   The day was perfect.   Not too windy and bright and sunny. We parked at Bullock Flats and caught the Skitube to Perisher.   This is really the best way to get there.   Nice highway all the way, and while the train is a little expensive at $55.00 per head return it is preferable to an extra hour drive on roads that may be a little less than ideal.   There is also only limited parking at Perisher so the train is the way to go.   We had a bit of a look around Perisher before heading off to Blue Cow, again by Skitube. It was so lovely to wander around.      We were thankful that we hired boots as it wa...
